Angela Gossow

Angela Gossow Lead Vocalist with Arch Enemy

What are you currently up to?

I am wrapping up 2008 and booking lots of shows for Arch Enemy in 2009. I am also preparing to go into the studios, recording some vocals.

What was the first record you bought? Not entirely sure. I think it was Testament "The Legacy" What is your earlist memory of Heavy Metal Music?

Hearing Slayer on a Metal/Rock Radio station from England. That day I became a metal fan for live (Although I didnt know it was called Metal back then!)

Who is the most famous person you've meet? Is that important? I have met 'famous' people but I do not consider them being special.. Special to me was meeting Ronnie James Dio. One of the greatest Metal singer of all times, super nice and very charming!

What is your most nerve-wracking experince? Noticing that the battery of my wireless mic is DEAD and I cant find the spare mic in the chaos on stage.

Who has the worse fashion sense in the band? That is so subjective. Anything is allowed! Fashion rules are for wimps and wanna-be's!

What inspired you to become a singer? The discovery that I can sound very loud and dangerous, haha.

Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie? I love all the Coen Brothers movies! They got all the best actors in it!

If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why? We Will Rise and Nemesis. To make sure Michael and Christopher will be remembered in a 100 years, when kids only play guitar hero instead of real instruments.

What makes you laugh/happy/smile? Young children when they imitate the boring, serious language of adults. Its pure comedy and makes you understand how egocentric, stupid and OLD many people become when they 'grow up'.

If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be? King Diamond. The creepiest duet ever!

Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members? Keep on rocking (your) ladies! Love, Angela

What are you currently up to?

Hi ! All my days at the moment are filled with the writing, composing and recording of the demo for the coming album… So these are basically the days with no beginning nor end, light-of-day nor nights, thousands of cups of coffee, blank pages or pages full of notes all over my apartment, going nuts sometimes, and feeling very excited when a song materializes… Very weird days. Totally immerged in a world of my own… Which I will be happy to share when the work is done. What was the first record you bought?

Waow… I think it was a 45-vinyl hit song called ‘En Rouge et Noir’ by a French artist named Jeanne Mas. She was posing on the cover wearing black laces and red, provocative lipstick… That was definitely a good reason to buy the disk for the little girl I was! ...This must have been a hint for my parents that I would not grow up to be a nurse, or a sister. ☺

What is your earlist memory of Heavy Metal Music? It must be an afternoon I spent with my super-cool-long-haired British cousin as I saw him by then. I must have been something like 8 years old then. I remember watching him with my eyes filled with admiration as he was head-banging to Guns’n’Roses! I’ve always been wearing long hair after that!

Who is the most famous person you've met? I guess it depends of points of views… Nightwish guys? Apocalyptica guys? Ville Valo?
What is your most nerve-wracking experience? Well, I would say the mixing of my ‘Precious Moment’ Ep. I was shaking with high fever, and yet there was very little time to finish the work. I had to give my opinions and make important choices with Hiili, but my head was buzzing and I could barely stand!

Who has the worse fashion sense in the band? Ha! I would love to make fun of one of them, but I like the style on all of them actually!… Original people for sure! What inspired you to become a singer? I already loved singing when I was a little girl. It’s not like anyone put the idea in my head. It was a source of pleasure for me very early already. Then as I grew up I got encouragements and I got criticisms too… But I never stopped anyway.

Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie? Noone and no film have replaced Viggo Mortensen and ‘Lord of the Rings’ in my heart yet. The ultimate of the ultimate. If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why?

I think I would pick ‘Smells like Teen Spirit’ by Nirvana and ‘Perfect Day Elise’ by P.J.Harvey. To me these two songs represent our times very well.

What makes you laugh/happy/smile? Many things do! But to name a few: Laugh: When me and my band-mates exchange each other’s fuck up after a tiring show! … With a few beers… Happy: Feeling my beloved ones happy makes me happy. Smile: When a charming man acts shy with me…

If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be? I think I would pick a man with a low voice, that would complete with mine… So maybe Ville Valo from HIM, or singer from Rammstein… This type of singer anyway.

Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?

Quote:
its time that we remember in the year 2008 woman in music are a force
of nature.’:

Thank you for writing these words… ;-) You’re welcome. Eilera

Interview By Black Kitty

1. What exactly made you become a singer?

Can you tell us something about your studies and your training? I remember that as a child I would often sing around the house together with my father who was acompanying me with his guitar. I can't say I was thinking of becoming a singer, I just know I loved singing and everybody around me was telling me I had a very beautiful voice.

2. You have a very beautiful voice, no doubt of that. How do you take care of your voice? Do you have any special techniques of practicing? How often do you practice? Thank you very much for saying that. I can't say I have some kind of special ritual for studying or for protecting my voice. It's recomended to take some good medication and have a voice-break when you have voice problems. I don’t think there is a day passing by without singing. It’s very important to practice, that’s the only way to get better and better.

3. Which were your best moments on the stage? It's hard to talk about a certain moment, because I always feel great on the stage.

4. Tell us something about Magica. Who is "the brain" of the band, how do you feel singing with this band and how is the atmosphere inside the band? How do you get along with your band-mates, considering that you are the only girl? Bogdan is the one who started the band Magica, the one who composes the music and writes the lyrics. He is the brain, the rest of us only bring a little of our personality to his music and do our best to make it sound as good as possible. The fact that we are all friends is very important. You can feel that in the air when we're rehearsing or touring. Of course this doesn't mean we don't have our small quarrels I can't say it's easy to be the only lady in the band, because sometimes, especially when we're touring, I need to have another girl near me... but this is it... I got used to this and I educated myself to get along with five males.

5. What can you tell us about Magica's latest album, Hereafter? The new Magica album, "Hereafter", is our first material which will have a worldwide release and our first album released by Afm Records. Musically, Hereafter is a more mature album in which Magica defines its own style.

6. Last year, Magica went on tour with After Forever. What do you think about this tour and what is your opinion about Floor Jansen? The last year tour was a very interesting experience. I had learned a lot of things about the world of metal music and about how things actually work. I admire Floor a lot. I love her energy when she's on stage and the way she performs.

7. What female singers from metal bands do you like? Do you have a favourite one? In your opinion, what does a lady have to do not only to be accepted in this genre, but also to be respected, considering that many people think metal is a men's world? My favorite will always be Tarja Turunen. I think she's the best and the most elegant. This thing with "metal only for men" really starts to be annoying. There is place for everybody and as long as a lady has something to say in metal music, I see no problem. Respect is something you get in time. I think being natural is important; the rest will just follow.

8. Is there anything you don't like in rock music? If yes, what is it that you don't like and why? What I don't like is that brutal black which I'm honestly telling you that I don't understand. I tried many times to listen to it, but everything ended with a nervous mood I admit... I don't understand the genre.

9. What other music genres do you like? I like anything which is well made and has melody. It happens to me many times to watch MTV and say "hey! This song is quite good!" though it's just a dance song.

10. What is your favourite colour? Black.

11. What is your favourite food? What about your favourite drink? I think cabbage-rolls (traditional Romanian food made with meat and rice covered in cabbage leaves) and Nectar

. 12. What goals do you want to achieve in your musical career? Do you dream of doing something else than what you are doing with Magica? I don't see myself doing something else than Magica. I really hope we'll have success and a long life.

13. In what other band would you love to sing? Are there bands you would never, under any circumstances, sing with? Please name one. Honestly I wouldn't like to sing in any other band. I love Magica. And I think I would never, under any circumstances, sing with Nightwish.

14. Soon you'll be touring with Helloween, Gamma Ray and Axxis. Are you nervous, considering you will sing with Axxis on the stage? That's right. In two weeks I'll go on a long European tour together with the guys from Axxis. This invitation is a great challenge for me and I'm sure I'll enjoy every moment. 15.

Two words for the people from Lady Rock? Stay metal!

What are you currently up to?
Nothing much. At this moment I m drinking a cup of tea and I listen to some Glen Hughes.
What was the first record you bought? I don't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure it was a Nazareth album.
What is your earlist memory of Heavy Metal Music? A few days ago, a Magica show.
Who is the most famous person you've meet? Andi Deris
What is your most nerve-wracking experince? I don't know if it's the worst but, one of the worst: After shooting the video for Entangled, the filming team lost 60% of the raw footage tape. We had to go to Bucharest again and try to select what we could from what was saved. Another time, during the Europe tour with After Forever in 2006, I got sick and I completely lost my voice (I couldn't even speak). So we had to wonder through the city (Montpelier if I remember right) and find a medicine for me to take in order to be able to sing that night. Finally we did it and everything was ok in the end,
Who has the worse fashion sense in the band? Bogdan ).
What inspired you to become a singer? I think the desire to play in a band started when I was little, because I used to play songs of Purple and Zeppelin with my father. He had an acoustic guitar and played the chords while I was trying to sing the lyrics.
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie? Miranda Richardson and Merlin the Hallmark version.
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why? There are lots of songs that I am mad about but right now I can think about: Nightwish – Everdream Kamelot – Center of the Universe I think these songs are part of the top 100 all-time masterpieces of rock music.
What makes you laugh/happy/smile? It doesn't really make me laugh but I am always happy when I can sing in good sound conditions.
If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be? Roy Khan What present do you want the most of Christmas?
Good health (really )
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?
Thank you for your interest in Magica and who knows maybe we'll meet at some concert in the future:).

Ailyn

Ailyn from Sirenia

1.What are you currently up to?

Right now I’m in Granada, Spain, waiting for the album release and really looking forward to play live with the band.

2.What was the first record you bought? If I’m not mistaken, the first album I bought was Mariah Carey’s “Daydream”. It’s a totally different style from what I’m doing now, but at the time I really liked Mariah J

3.What is your earlist memory of Heavy Metal Music? My first memory of Metal was when my mother bought Nightwish’s “Century Child”. I had listened to metal before, but it was when I listened to this album that I began to feel interest in this style.

4.Who is the most famous person you've meet?

5.What is your most nerve-wracking experince? I’m a really nervous person, so it’s hard to answer, because I’m always nervous. I prefer talking about good nerve-wracking experiences so the most of all was at Masters of Rock, I was really scared, cos it was the first time I sung in front of so many people, and it was my introduction as the new Sirenia singer, my legs were trembling…but later I got calm and everything went right!

6.Who has the worse fashion sense in the band? Hahahaha…I think them all wear nice clothes!! 7.What inspired you to become a singer? At school, when I was about 12, my teacher played songs and she gave us lyrics with some words missing. One day she played a song I really like it, I went home singing it, and a little later I told my mum I wanted to be a singer.

8.Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie? I like a lot of actors, but maybe Denzel Washington. My favorite movie is The Lord Of The Rings (the trilogy)

9. If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why? They would be Still Loving You Scorpions and Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. Both are songs that I love to listen, they make me relax and make me feel good while listening.

10.What makes you laugh/happy/smile? Luckily I’m a very happy person and I easily laugh, I like to see the funny side of things and I’m always trying to be happy.

11. If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be? There are a lot of artist I would like to duet with. But maybe they would be Roy Khan from Kamelot or Jared Leto from 30 Seconds To Mars.

12. Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members? I wanna say hello to all the Lady Rock Members and thank you for the support!!! Thanks to you! Ailyn

Pamela Moore

Pamela Moore

What are you currently up to?
I have a new EP release coming out in December called Solna "Sent From Heaven" which I am guest singer. I share lead vocals on a duet with a dear friend, Mr. Ralf Scheepers, The amazing voice of Primal Fear! I also am writing for a new solo CD to be released Fall of 2009 AND I have a brand new band! In fact, we just finished 2 dates in the Chicago area and it was great fun! ...so things are pretty exciting!
What was the first record you bought?
Earth, Wind and Fire! I bought it with my own babysitting money. LOL Honestly, I came from a very poor family so we didn't have money to spend on records...
What is your earliest memory of Heavy Metal Music?
Watching Judas Priest on MTV! I remember when MTV first aired and our TV was literally on THAT channel 24/7!
Who is the most famous person you've meet?
I've been blessed to have met many wonderful people but probably the one person I am very partial to is my cousin Terri Nunn, (Berlin) I am so proud of her!! she is sexy, smart, and extremely talented! I would like to meet Bono (U2) one day....
What is your most nerve-wracking experience?
The costume quick changes I had to do for the Operation MindCrime 1 & 2 shows... there were a few times I would suffer a "wardrobe malfunction" which would interfere with me getting on stage at the proper time!!!!
Who has the worse fashion sense in the band?
If you are asking about Queensryche... NO ONE has bad fashion sense... those boys are all HOT men, and they know how to dress too!
What inspired you to become a singer?
Watching singers and actresses in the movies and on stage. When I was very young, my mother introduced me to theatre and I was so mesmerized by the whole idea of it all! The stage, lights, performing....creating emotions and feelings for all to watch, feel and experience... it is indescribable...
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie?
Too many to mention but what comes to mind right at this moment would be Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges.
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why?
Imagine by John Lennon Silent Lucidity by Queensryche
What makes you laugh/happy/smile
Being in the studio making music and performing on stage and puppies!
If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be?
I have been grateful to share my work with many brilliant artists, singers and musicians. So, It would be difficult to single out any one person or for that matter just name a couple of people but if you insist.... probably Chris Cornell.
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members?
Stay true to yourself, trust your instincts and follow your heart. Surround yourself with people you trust and never stop learning about yourself. As long as you continue to grow and stay true, life will always keep you on your feet... ENJOY THE RIDE... because life is more about the journey and not just about "making it"...

Elizabeth Fyre

Elizabeth Fyre Lead Vocalist with AraPacis
What are you currently up to?
I’m performing and recording with my band for the moment, although I do have an acoustic project in the works that I am currently writing for.
What was the first record you bought? Wow, I can’t remember that far back… but with my own money I believe the first record I bought was Marilyn Manson, Antichrist Superstar… which is still to this day one of my favorite albums ever.
Who is the most famous person you've met? Probably the guys from Deep Purple. Meeting Steve Morse was definitely a dream come true. I’ve been a big fan of his and the band since I was little. What is your most nerve-wracking experience?
I’ll say my first time ever being on stage with the band… although it went a lot better than I had anticipated, I was really nervous. Now, I can call a stage my home… it’s where I feel most comfortable and fearless.

Who has the worst fashion sense in the band? Haha, I don’t know. I’ll say all the guys need a little bit of help in that department. I’m gonna get in shit for this, I know it.
What influenced you to become a singer? I don’t think anything really influenced me, it’s just always been in me. I’m fortunate enough to have grown up in a pretty music oriented family, but I have to say a lot of my inspiration came from Janis Joplin... watching and listening to her can never get old for me.
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie? I don’t think I can pick one favorite actor. It’s a tie between Jim Carey & John Travolta. They’ve both made movies in which I’ve adored every single one. And my favorite movie is either Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Almost Famous.
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why? I wish I could answer that one, too many songs running through my head. Regardless of what music will be in 100 years, I still think it will never top what came out of the 70’s and 80’s. It’s just an era of music that can’t ever be done again.
If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be? Dead, I’ll pick Janis obviously. Alive, it would be Glenn Danzig hands down. His voice is one of a kind and with so much power and emotion, he makes everyone of his songs timeless. If you haven’t heard Let It Be Captured by Danzig, go listen to it NOW! Haha. I would do anything to sing that song with him.
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members? Just a big BIG thank you to everyone and anyone that has supported AraPacis in any way. We love you guys!

Marcela Bovio

Marcela Bovio Lead Vocalist with Stream of Passion

What are you currently up to?
Writing new stuff with Stream of Passion, getting ready to do a small tour in Holland and Belgium.
What was the first record you bought?
Wow, I seriously don't remember... probably something by Héroes del Silencio.
What is your earlist memory of Heavy Metal Music? The first style of metal music I dove into was actually Doom Metal, with My Dying Bride and Celestial Season.
Who is the most famous person you've meet? Arjen Lucassen.
What is your most nerve-wracking experince? Releasing a new album and awaiting for the public's response is always nerve wrecking to me.
Who has the worse fashion sense in the band? That could very well be me!

What inspired you to become a singer? Starting with music lessons at a very young age, I realized then that I really enjoy singing.
Who is your all time favorite actor and what is your favorite movie? My favorite actor would be Johnny Depp, but I don't really have a favorite movie.
If you could place 2 songs in a time capsule (to be opened in 100 years), what 2 songs would you choose and why? The popiest pop-star track and the most brutal black metal song I could find. Just to show the people of the future how extreme we can get.
What makes you laugh/happy/smile? Laugh: tickles, happy: singing, smile: the people I love. If you could choose one artist to do a duet with, which would it be?
Matt from Muse
Do you have a Message for the Lady Rock Members? Best wishes and keep on rocking!
